Marking RP topics

Post by Nedylene » Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:10 am

I have seen a few new arrivals fleeing this place after their topics are destroyd by a lot of OOC talk like this one
http://www.aofroobs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4469
and 90% of the topics in the IC part of the forum are OOC
Been looking several topics, and I can't find a single one that hasn't been taken over by OOC talk.
Is it possible to to have rp topics marked with (rp) or something like that to keep the posts safe from OOC?

The mentioned thread was in Atlantean life, which is an RP subforum, isnt it?

Thats is what mods are for. If a thred are marked rp, they can delete the OOC talk. We have a pvp sub-forum (It's on my ignore list  ), but nothing for the rp'ers

It was supposed to be, but it is not. Start a topic in there, and after 2-3 posts it has tuned into OOC about "my uber twink, and what he can do

This is a good point, Nedylene. To be honest, for my part, I didn't even notice the threads in that forum going astray. I R not much the roleplayer.

Like Random mentioned, threads can always slip. As you mentioned, threads in Atlantean Life or Rimor Life are meant to be in-character. As mods, we will do a better job keeping posts in AL or RL as in-character.

If your going to make Atlantean/Rimor Life RP only...then your going to have to make 2 new forums for Atlantean/Rimor OOC. Sometimes there are stuff people need to talk about that only relate to 1 server. Just how it is on the official forums.

And FYI...Life of Atlantean and Life on Rimor on the official forums are not RP forums, which may be why people use these forums the way we do.

I think Nedylene merely meant using [RP] or [OOC] flag in the titles. Since the topics of the raid-groups moved to this section it even is less obviously a RP section.

Making a separate RP section also could solve this. One would be enough: I never understood why there is one for every server while this doesn't really matter for RPing.
The Atlantean and Rimor sections can stay for all server specific stuff.
Name for RP section could be Rubi-Ka or Roll-Playing. Former is more into the RP theme already, latter one is more obvious and will attract even less OOC posts :P.

I'll look into adding some RP specific sub-forums of the already existing server-centric forums. In the end it is still up to the users to keep things RP and not OOC.

To be honest that particular thread didn't go astray that far. </me washes my hands> The great thing about RP in Sci Fi is that it has a lot more range than anything set in a pseudo past/fantasy type setting. There is slang and lingo that can carry on for millenia among different cultures. I like to RP in first person as opposed to 3rd person. RP speak in a sci-fi MMORPG may consist of anything short of direct game mechanics and knowledge of content that their "character" should not have access to.*
