You have to admit that it sounds kinda cool. Just sayin'.

Bah, page 2, might as well stay on-topic: LOTRO. Fairly sure it runs on Linux - I've been meaning to try it since it went F2P, too.

I would like to direct Linux/Mac users to http://aodevs.com/index.php/topic,852.msg3179.html

Unzip just "Awesomium.dll" SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN YOUR AO DIRECTORY

Fire up AO and click "Accept" the EULA and allow the game to do the integrity check.

Rename Awesomium.dll in your AO directory to Awesomium.old and move this new Awesomium.dll into your AO directory.

Enter in your username/password and select character and play.

When done playing, rename Awesomium.dll to Awesomium.new and rename Awesomium.old to Awesomium.dll so that you're AO launcher is ready for the next integrity check.

This works for me on CrossOver 9.2 which is Wine 1.2 based. This didn't work for me in Wine 1.3.7. Please post whether it works for you here: http://aodevs.com/index.php/topic,851.msg3180.html#new (what OS and what version of WINE).

Heyas,

it did work for me in wine 1.3.7 (macports-port) with NotifyAddrChange-patch as posted in my wine-bug ticket.

You can try to patch your wine source manually and give it a shot. I haven't had time to do excessive tests with different versions...

In terms of the awesomium licensing rather than the EULA, is that legal?

Who cares? In the Funcom EULA there is stated that you are only allowed to play if you OWN a physical copy of the game (on a storage)... We are all criminals anyway :)

Obviously the AO EULA is worthless since virtually everyone has broken it by using third-party tools like Clicksaver. But I don't know anything about these Awesomium guys and how seriously they take their product. Nor do I know anything about the legality of providing hacks for software that was once free but now commercial. I'm just curious.

The game is also very old but a lot of people probably have fond memories of it.

Sort of back on topic, but no harm in using this thread anyway I guess :).

Did they change the mouse-steering in the latest patch? I'm unable to steer by holding down the RMB - makes using a yalm somewhat... tricky :P. Anyone else had that problem? Maybe other wine users?

This is apparently a problem for some people and not a problem at all for others.

I'm having the same problem too. I just noticed today that there are some check boxes in the preference window for enabling/disabling LMB/RMB look/pan, but checking/unchecking those do nothing for me.

Just another thing making the 18.4 patch a game killer for me. I haven't logged AO much at all since the 18.4 patch -- even with the new dll kludge.

Indeed. Can't really tell if any non-wine-users suffer from the no-mouse-steering tho.

Same for me, I even tried relogging between the changes and skimmed through the Prefs.xml-files for possible options... no luck.

Yeah... what bothers me the most is the fact that there's no telling if the game will be playable after the next patch not :/. Also the combination of pay-to-play *and* pay-to-pwn kinda hints of financial problems...

EDIT: Is it possible to steer up/down using the keyboard?

Yes. I recall it was on the numpad somewhere. Try numpad-8 and numpad-2 or something like that. Numpad 5 is suppose to snap your camera back to "center forward and level" but in my experience, in a yalm it is a "select some random up/down". It's really not practical to steer a yalm with a keyboard.

Also, at least one person on Windows Vista reports that he/she can't steer with mouse.
